The Second SATURDAYS
/Saturday number 2... drumroll please-Wine Tasting! You may consider this a little anti-climatic for a Bay area resident, but I had never been to Sonoma and something at least mildly interesting had to be done for the second week.
A friend that had previously lived in SF recommended Gloria Ferrer Winery for an afternoon tasting because they had "champagne caves". After some extensive googling of "Champagne caves" it looked like a GREAT idea. I think I accidentally forgot to include "Sonoma" in the description because the pictures online gave me the impression that these caves were dripping champagne instead of the typical cave moisture. Either way I was excited to see what it was all about.
We arrived for the afternoon tour and I would say it very informative. Maybe a little too informative given the objective was to wine/champagne taste. The tour went on much longer than I had anticipated and in more detail than I had hoped. However, I would still give it a good review since the tour guide was very nice and generous with his pours. I did not quite leave a sommelier, but I did have a great time exploring the grounds, saw a beautiful view, and tried some tasty snacks. Overall, it was a SATURDAYS worthy experience.
I may have romanticized the idea of a "champagne cave" in my mind a little too much, but all in all I would highly recommend any trip to the Sonoma area even for a Bay Area veteran.
Until next time. Stay Tuned.
